James McMahon

Freelance Polymath

James McMahon is a freelance journalist from the north of England, who currently lives in London with his wife and his Ramones records. Until last year, he edited the weekly rock bible Kerrang! for over half a decade, while before that, he fulfilled a variety of senior roles at NME. He writes about music, film, TV, football, mental health and videogames, but in truth, “mostly crime and mysteries these days”, for the likes of Vice, The Observer, The Big Issue, Prospect and FANDOM, as well as many more. He also makes zines and comics, plays guitar in the rock bands Sister Death and Jobbers and in October, plans to launch the ‘magazine in an email’, Spoook, which he describes as “stories from under the floorboards”.
