Design’s role in campaigning journalism

The Grenfell tower tragedy, in which 72 people lost their lives, demonstrated years of failure of housing policy. Inside Housing had been flagging fire safety concerns about fire safety policy in tower blocks for almost a decade before the fire. As a specialist title for the housing sector, it used its background knowledge to launch an immediate campaign to improve safety after the fire – Never Again. The design challenge was to make sure the campaign maximised its reach in a sensitive way.

The talk will focus on the brief for the campaign and how design was a major part of its success.
